Migrating report and user security from BusinessObjects 6.5.x to Enterprise XI

The information in the article refers to
BusinessObjects Enterprise XI

Applies to
Migrating security from BusinessObjects 6.5.x
CMC 'Schedule For' and Designer 'Security Restrictions' features

Synopsis
BusinessObjects 6.5.x security was applied through Supervisor, which does not exist in the Enterprise XI releases.

How do you apply security when migrating reports and users from BusinessObjects 6.5.x to BusinessObjects Enterprise XI?

Solution
The 'Schedule For' option set from the Central Management Console (CMC) should be combined with a restriction set created from the Designer or with database level restrictions.

1. Log on to the CMC and click Objects > your specific object > Schedule > Schedule For.

2. Add the user names or groups that require specific scheduling parameters, click Schedule for specified users and user groups > Add/Remove > Add/Remove Groups or Add User > '>' button > OK > Update.

3. Log on to the Designer and export the universe if that has not been done. Click File > Export > Browse, select folder, click appropriate group(s), click Add > your Universe > Open > OK.

4. Create a restriction set. Click Tools > Edit Security Restrictions > New > Rows > Add > table '>>' button > select table > OK > where '>>' button, specify the where clause, click OK > OK.

5. Apply a restriction set. Click Tools > Apply Security Restrictions > Select user or groups to apply security to > click your group > Select > Close. Click your user or group > Select a restriction set > Apply > OK. To change the priority of the restriction set click the 'View or change group priority' button.

NOTES: To pass the database user name and password to the database, in the Designer click Tools > Connections > select your connection > Edit, enter the database user name and password, click Next > Next > Next > Finish.

Security restrictions used to be set in BusinessObjects 6.5.x in Supervisor.
